The obverse hits hard. A coiled Gadsden rattlesnake rears up mid-strike against a colorized Stars and Stripes, ringed by UNITED WE STAND above and DON'T TREAD ON ME below on a deep navy field. Red and white enamel stripes, white enamel stars, and a green enamel patch of ground under the snake make the whole scene pop out of the metal.

The reverse goes quieter and heavier: the Liberty Bell in deep antiqued relief, crack and all, marked LIBERTY BELL 1776, encircled by the John F. Kennedy line "We dare not forget that we are the heirs of that first revolution." Run a thumb across the reeded edge and the raised lettering and the thing feels like it carries some weight of its own.
